Citizen
Involvement in Land-Use
Updated 11/22/05
The League of Women
Voters has long advocated open government with
full involvement of the citizenry at all levels.
In Oregon, the
League supports our statewide land-use planning
Goals and Guidelines. Goal One requires all
governing bodies involved in land-use decisions
to have an active citizen involvement program.
The League of Women
Voters Rogue Valley and Ashland have partnered
to research the formal citizen involvement
positions of eleven incorporated municipalities
and Jackson County. Our goal is to renew
government awareness and to increase citizen
involvement in land-use planning throughout
Jackson County. |

We have a vibrant
committee working on this exciting project. We
have collected the written plans for citizen
involvement from Jackson County, Ashland, Butte
Falls, Central Point, Eagle Point, Gold Hill,
Jacksonville, Medford, Phoenix, Rogue River,
Shady Cove and Talent. Using these written
plans, we have formulated an extensive
questionnaire. We are scheduling interviews
with officials from each of these governing
bodies. Step one is to reach an understanding
of the level of compliance by the governing
bodies in the individual citizen involvement
plans.
We expect to have
all of our interviews completed by mid-January
2006. We will release the results of our survey
to the public and the media. We will then
embark on action to bring more citizens to the
land-use planning table.
If you are
interested in joining our work on this project,
